Appena dopo Largo del Capitolo, andando verso Est a Porta da Piedi, c’è un piccolo slargo, conosciuto come Piazza dell’Olmo. Il nome deriva dalla presenza che un tempo vi era al centro di una grande pianta. Durante il XIX e gran parte del XX secolo è stato luogo abitativo di diverse famiglie e personaggi famosi del borgo. Nella fase tra le due guerre mondiali vi risiedevano una sessantina di persone, soprattutto famiglie patriarcali legate al mondo della sartoria, come i Rapagnà (uno dei più longevi sarti, Altobrando “Balduccio” Rapagnà [1909-2017], è vissuto fino all’età record di 108 anni) oppure dei calzolai. Oggi nel sito, durante il periodo natalizio, viene allestito un suggestivo presepe in movimento.
Just past “Largo del Capitolo”, heading east towards “Porta da Piedi”, there is a small open space known as “Piazza dell’Olmo” which once had a large elm tree planted in the centre. During the 19th and much of the 20th century many important people and families of the village lived there. In the period between the two World Wars it was the home of about sixty people, especially patriarchal families who worked as tailors or shoemakers. One of the longest-living tailors resided here, Altobrando “Balduccio” Rapagnà [1909-2017] who died at the age of 108. Today in this square, during the Christmas period, a charming moving nativity scene is set up.
